Phil Marsden

Owner & Head Coach

Strength & Performance Coach Leigh Leopards Women’s Rugby League Team since 2023

Phil has always had a strong interest in sport, particularly in training methods and nutrition that support performance and long-term health.

He played amateur Rugby League from age 6 to 30. During his later playing years, recurring injuries sparked a deep interest in pain reduction, injury rehabilitation, and smarter training methods — principles that now form the foundation of the system at Wellness Strength Training. What started as a personal journey to stay healthy became a career dedicated to helping others do the same and after finishing playing in 2008, Phil turned his passion into a profession. In 2011 he opened a small warehouse gym in 2011, building what would become a private training facility with a reputation for high quality training and coaching that will support people through life.

Since 2009, Phil has worked with a wide range of clients, including:

  • Hundreds of adults wanting to move better, feel better, and improve their health
  • Professional MMA fighters
  • Amateur and semi-professional football and rugby players
  • Hundreds of Youth athletes from a variety of sports (ages 9–18)

He has also supported clients through pre- and post-pregnancy training, ACL knee reconstruction rehabilitation, post-operative recovery, and long-term pain management.

Phil is committed to continual development. Beyond industry qualifications, he regularly invests in courses, books, seminars, and learning from leading coaches around the world — particularly in the United States, whose private training model inspired the launch of Wellness Strength Training in 2011.

His mission is simple: help people train intelligently, reduce pain, get sustainable results, and improve their long-term health.
